People who broke the law by misusing disabled Blue Badges have been named and shamed by Bromley Council.

Over the last two years, there have been fifty-five successful prosecutions of people who misused Blue Badges.

Five of those prosecutions happened last week.

Here is a list of the five people who were prosecuted:

The drivers all pleaded guilty at Bromley Magistrates Court to using a badge without the holder being present.

Mary Ogunsoluju of Roundtable Road, Downham, paid a fine of £100, costs of £200 and a surcharge of £30.

Paul Taylor of Queens Road, Chislehurst, paid a fine of £200, costs of £200 and a surcharge of £30.

Latisha Powell of Oakley Road, Croydon, paid a fine of £293, costs of £200, a surcharge of £30.

Michael Warner of Kingswood Avenue, Bromley, paid a fine of £150, costs of £200, and a surcharge of £30.

Another driver from Sevenoaks pleaded guilty to misusing her daughter's badge whilst the holder was at school. She was ordered to pay a total of £450.

All offences took place between the May 18 and August 11 this year.

The council has announced plans to increase roadside inspections. They will also put more signs and send a message to around 12,000 badge holders in the borough reminding them of ways in which they can use the badges.

Councillor Huntington-Thresher, executive councillor for environment, said: “We really need to get the message home that using your relative’s blue badge is not acceptable and you will be prosecuted.

“Genuine badge holders tell us they are pleased that routine inspections are taking place daily.

“I fully support the improved signage and sincerely hope it will deter those who consider taking the risk of displaying a badge they are not entitled to use.

“Remember, Blue Badge misuse is a criminal offence.

“Getting caught not only leads to prosecution and a fine, but can also affect future job prospects, insurance and cold potentially prevent international travel.”

Blue Badge misuse can lead to a £1,000 fine and confiscation of the badge.
