Residents in a high-rise block of flats in Bromley were evacuated last night after a fire broke out on the ground floor.

London Fire Brigade were called to the flats in Turpington Lane at about 9pm last night, October 31, after a ground-floor occupant evacuated their flat.

Kunal Jarodia, a resident of the flats, said the fire service did well to respond quickly.

They said: "It was a very odd experience as we could hear people shouting fire outside, and I could just smell burning, at that time I opened the window and saw that some people were standing outside shouting fire, as soon as I heard that I gathered my parents and sister and made our way downstairs.

"A lot of people were outside, and the Firefighters tackled the fire very quickly."

Footage filmed by Mr Jarodia shows the fire as it began to spread.

Five fire engines responded to the fire.

A spokeswoman for LFB said 60 residents were evacuated and 25 per cent of the ground floor flat was destroyed by the fire.

The fire was under control by about 10.30pm.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation and no casualties were reported.
