Plans for hundreds of homes and a new football pitch in Slade Green have been submitted to Bexley Council.

Submitted by Quinn Estates, plans for up to 240 apartments along with a sports facility and 3G pitch have been submitted to the council's planning department.

The development is proposed for Moat Lane Park, formerly Slade Green Football Club and known as the Sportsman Private Members' Club.

Developers said: "The proposal will create a significant legacy for Slade Green through the delivery of significant new community and sporting facilities and infrastructure, benefitting existing and

future residents.

"The scheme will deliver a total of 240 new residential apartments – including affordable housing at an overall level of 35 per cent, split between affordable rent and shared equity, which will help meet the existing and future needs of the borough."

One of the two sites includes the former home of Slade Green Football Club, which formed in 1946 after three teams merged. The ground has not been used since 2011, and under the proposals there would be a football pitch built along with a new sport facility.

The plans include a sport and community hub, a potential medical centre, changing rooms, a 3G pitch and a car park along with the new homes.

Slade Green is an area earmarked by the council for major redevelopment in an ambitious growth strategy announced earlier this year.

In the strategy, the council estimates there is potential to build 8,000 homes in Slade Green alone.

Quinn said their development will help meet housing needs in Bexley.

In their application, developers said: "The proposals involve a unique opportunity to redevelop an existing vacant, under used and poor quality open space, including previously development land, encouraging economically active residents to the Borough and improving existing facilities locally. "

In terms of parking, developers plan for 240 spaces for the residential development, and another 17 spaces for other residents.

Both sites are on Green Belt Land, but developers think their plans would not damage the landscape as an outdoor sport facility would be included in the development.
