A bereaved family have praised the kind actions of a member of staff at a Waitrose in Beckenham.

Jeyda Forrest's aunt was seriously ill in hospital. Her cousin went in to the Beckenham branch of Waitrose to get something for his mother because she had not eaten anything for days.

A member of staff noticed Ms Forrest's cousin looking distraught and went to check if he was ok.

Jeyda Forrest wrote on Waitrose's Facebook page: “A member of staff noticed his demeanour and asked if he was ok. He replied “not really” and explained the situation.

“This kind member of staff (he thinks she may have been a manager as she had a blazer on) selected some organic puréed fruit pouches (the kind made for babies) and also picked up a beautiful bouquet for him to take to his Mum.”

The member of staff did not charge Ms Forrest's cousin for the fruit and flowers. Unfortunately Ms Forrest's aunt died that night but the whole family were touched by what the member of staff did.

Ms Forrest said: “our whole family were overwhelmed by this act of kindness and it brought a glimmer of light to what was a terrible day.

“We sadly lost my aunt later that night (early hours of the morning) but we will never forget the kindness of this lady who helped my cousin.
