A teenager 'stopped breathing twice' as he was airlifted to hospital following a stabbing in broad daylight in Abbey Wood.

The victim is believed to have been making his way home yesterday lunchtime (October 22) when he was stabbed in the main artery in his leg.

The teen's mother said: "He was rushed into theatre where he had two teams working on him for five and half hours to which he stopped breathing again, they were fighting to save his life and his leg, and they managed to do both.

"He is still in a bad way but he is a fighter and he will keep fighting.

"He was running to get home but collapsed where he was found, and thank you to the person who found him if you never he would not be here now."

A spokesman for the Met Police said officers were called to reports of a stabbing by the London Ambulance Service.

The spokesman said: "At the scene officers discovered an 18-year-old male had suffered a stab wound to the leg.

“He was taken to an east London hospital. There have been no arrests."
