As of today, older vehicles travelling through central London will have to pay the congestion charge and an additional T-Charge.
The T-Charge comes into effect today in central London and here is everything you need to know about the new charges.
Mayor Sadiq Khan has created a £10 T-Charge, which, targets mainly diesel and petrol vehicles registered before 2006.
Speaking on the Today Programme, Mr Khan said: “We’ve got a health crisis in London caused by poor quality air. Roughly speaking each year more than 9,000 Londoners die prematurely because of poor quality air.”
The T-Charge will cover the same area as the existing congestion charge zone, bumping up the cost to £21.50 for those affected.
Who will this effect?
- The T-Charge will affect any driver that owns a diesel or petrol vehicle registered before 2006.
How much will it cost?
- The T-Charge will cost £10 on top of the £11.50 congestion charge.

- The congestion and T-Charge covers central London between 7am and 6pm Monday to Friday.

What else do I need to know about this charge?
- There are penalty charges for those who refuse to pay the T-Charge.
- The T-Charge does not apply to motorcycles, mopeds or scooters.
- The T-Charge aims to improve air quality in London, in particular with regard to nitrogen dioxide
