A major high-street shop is set to leave Tower Retail Park in Crayford.

In plans submitted to Bexley Council, Next will be removed from the retail park and the empty shop will be divided into five separate units.

Planning permission for the retail park was granted in 1997, and planning permission to add a Costa Coffee inside the Next store was granted in 2013.

In a letter to the council, developers said: "The application also proposes alterations to the external appearance of the building to form new shopfronts with five separate entrance doors.

"Next, who currently operate from the unit, would vacate the site, with the newly created units being occupied by new retailers.

"The nature of the proposed development is to make better or more intensive use of an underused retail unit."

Plans that have been submitted for approval

The retail park is a 'town centre focal point' according to the council and developers say the smaller units will make the retail park more appealing for shoppers to visit, and encourage them to to shop for longer in the town.

It is not clear what stores or restaurants would fill the new smaller units.

The application is currently waiting for approval.
