Bexleyheath Town Centre will be hosting a weekend of events to honour the fallen for this year's poppy appeal with help from the Royal British Legion.

On Saturday, October 28 there will be a replica Spitfire and a Hurricane in the town centre and uniformed re-enactors showing the younger generation a little of what it was like in war time.

There will also be retired army vehicles including a 101 Land Rover, Willis Jeep and a Scammel Recovery Truck in the Broadway.

The Royal Legion, Police, Air Army and Sea Cadets will all be in the Town Centre giving talks to shoppers whilst raising money.

Town centre manager Tony Garratt said: “This is one of the most important events on the Bexleyheath Town Centre Calendar. We are delighted to be able to support the Royal British Legion as they commence their annual Poppy Appeal, and urge people to make a point of visiting the town centre over the weekend, to get involved and to support the RBL fundraising efforts. We hope that it can be an event of discovery, reflection and remembrance.”

A church ceremony will take place at Christ Church at 11am on October 28 to mark the opening of the Garden of Remembrance, led by the Reverend Trevor Wyatt.

There will be crosses to commemorate the sacrifice of Bexley residents who served in the armed forces in conflicts since 1914.
