A man has died following a crash on the M25 that saw the road closed for several hours this morning. 

A 52-year-old man from Chatham was pronounced dead at the scene after a crash involving a green Scania lorry and his Iveco truck.

The truck had stopped on the hard shoulder following the breakdown of another car. The 52-year-old was not in his vehicle at the time of the crash. 

Police have arrested a 42-year-old man from Gravesend on suspicion of causing death by careless driving. He remains in custody. 

The incident happened at about 6.15am on Friday, September 22.

A South East Coast Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: "We were called to reports of a pedestrian being struck by a vehicle between junctions five and four of the M25 motorway at about 6.15am today.

"We sent a critical care paramedic team, single responder and air ambulance team.  However, efforts to revive the patient were unsuccessful."
