The mother of a teenager who was killed after being knocked off a scooter has honoured her son by braving an abseil challenge for charity.

Daniel Webb, 18, died when he was hit by a minicab in Baston Road, Hayes, on December 5, 2016.

Before he died, Mr Webb raised money for the London Air Ambulance by taking on their helipad abseil challenge.

Mr Webb’s mother, Jakki Webb, along with his brothers James and Adam and a group of his friends did the abseil last Wednesday to honour his memory.

The group raised over £3,500 for charity.

Jakki said: “It was never on my bucket list as I hate heights but because Dan did it I wanted to do it too. It’s a good cause.

“We all had to do it for Dan basically.”

She said: “It was an awful long way down!

“His girlfriend told me that if Dan was here he would laugh in my face if I backed out and I knew she was right.

“Dan was a looney. He lived life to the full. Things like bungee jumps didn’t faze him at all.”

Ms Webb was the last to go down the 17-storey building.

She said: “I felt relief once it was done! I never want to do it again, but it was amazing that I did it. It was all for him.”

Ms Webb praised her son’s friends for the support they gave her family when he died.

She said: “James and Adam are like brothers to Dan’s friends now. My boys can see Dan in his friends and Dan’s friends can see Dan in my boys.”

Minicab driver Joseph Hurry, 62, who crashed into Mr Webb on his scooter, pleaded guilty to causing death by careless driving on September 7.

Hurry will be sentenced on November 2.

Addressing the defendant, Judge Anne Molyneux said: “It is my duty to advise you that a custodial sentence may be passed that day.

“The court extends its respects to the members of the family. I know no sentence passed will be able to help ease the pain of this loss.”
