Although they never really got out of the blocks, Welling United claimed a one goal win against a hard working Whitehawk team.

Their second consecutive victory with their second consecutive clean sheet moved them six points clear of the relegation zone and six points away from the play off places.

Last season Whitehawk beat Welling three times so the Wings were happy to turn the tables.

Joe Healy missed out through suspension and Jake Jebb came in for Welling's only change from their victory over Poole.

They came out brightly and had a goal disallowed when Christian Nanetti's shot was flicked home by an offside striker.

Player manager Jamie Coyle then headed wide from Jebb's corner before the visitors missed a great chance. Liam Gordon left missed tackles in his wake before playing it across the area for Connor Tighe to lash a shot that Dillon Barnes did superbly to tip onto the bar.

Ramon Rose shot wide from a long way out before Harry Phipps sent Jeffrey Monakana away down the right wing. He then put a low cross in to Florent Bojaj who spun but shot wide.

Barnes made a comfortable save from a deflected Tighe shot at one end and Monakana had an effort saved at the other.

Both Harry and Eli Phipps then came close. Harry had a header cleared off the line then Eli had one well saved.

Harry Phipps was not to be denied, however, and he lost his marker to head Jack Jebb's corner home.

Eli Phipps then came close again with a flicked header wide from Monakana's cross.

Addison Garnett came close for Whitehawk before Harry Phipps and Archie Davies both got injured in an accidental clash in midfield. Davies was unable to continue but Phipps was fit to continue until being felled by a heavy tackle causing him to limp off and replaced.

Coyle headed wide early in the second half when Monakana crossed after receiving Jebb's short corner.

After that, goal attempts were at a premium. Jebb blasted a free kick high and wide and Tighe fired a shot that was taken comfortably by Barnes.

Defences continued to dominate as the rain got heavier and the best that Whitehawk could muster was a shot by Max Agnoly that took a deflection and looped over the bar.

As the game came to a close, Jebb was just off target with s free kick but there were no alarms in injury time and Welling completed the victory.
