A free film festival is kicking off in Catford this Friday.

The Catford Free Film Festival will run from Friday 8 to Sunday 17 September at venues across Catford.

There will be eleven screenings and five workshops on offer over the course of the festival. As part of the event, a film making competition is being held where teams will have to try and make a short film in just 72 hours.

This is the festival's second year and comes after a successful crowd funding campaign that saw over £10,000 raised through donations from 95 individuals and groups. This funding includes £5,000 of funding from Lewisham Council and £2,000 from Team Catford.

Chair of Catford Film, Keith Arnold said: "Last year’s festival was a huge success and we were absolutely blown away by the response to our crowdfunder earlier this year.

"The Catford Free Film Festival is only possible thanks to the support we receive from our community and the contributions of our volunteers."

The festival will begin with a screening of Amma Asante’s ‘A United Kingdom’ at St Laurence’s Church.
