An Orpington man has bagged an apprenticeship with Britain's biggest power distribution company.
Tom Edwards, 21, is starting an 18-month apprenticeship with UK Power Networks, which keeps the lights on across the South East, London and East of England.
He will be training up as a cable jointer on low voltage electricity cables.
Mr Edwards, a former student of Coopers Technology College in Chislehurst, said: "When I learnt I had got the job I was so happy. It seems such a well organised apprenticeship and everyone is really clued up. I’m looking forward to the training.
"I have always been more interested in electricity and wanted to further myself in this industry so this is the way to go.
"I would like to remain with UK Power Networks and develop my career in the company, progressing as far as possible.”
Steve Read, trainee programmes manager at UK Power Networks, said: “Ensuring that we have skilled crafts people working on our distribution network is key to ensure that our customers’ electricity supply is maintained.
"The recruitment and training of apprentices enable us to grow our skills base, which is important in our industry."
