If you go down to the woods today, you may well be in for a big surprise.

Scores of sculptures have popped up in carved into the tree trunks in Bursted Wood near Barnehurst.

News Shopper spoke to Jay Leffew, the woman behind the fascinating carvings, last year. Since then the carvers have clearly been very busy.

Speaking at the time, Jay, of Erith, said: “It’s nice to be able to share them with people - I would love other carvers to join me.

“I quietly get on with it, it’s not much at all - I just make sure that I don’t endanger other people while I’m doing it.”

According to social media, Jay works with another lady to create the carvings that are scattered around the woods.

Social media users have complimented the carvings, with one in Bexleyheath News and Gossip saying: "I often see her when walking my dog. She has recently done a lovely one of some dogs! It's great to see something brighten up the woods when you find all sorts of things down there!"

Another said: "So nice that they do this.

"I love them all they are amazing.. met both the teacher and her apprentice.. it makes a change to have something nice to see."
