A junction in Deptford is being closed for a month for improvement works to be carried out.

The junction between Giffin Street and Deptford High Street will be closed between August 28 and September 29.

Part of a Lewisham Council scheme to regenerate the high street, the work is funded by Transport for London.

The council is looking to reduce the volume of traffic that uses the high street as a "rat run" from Deptford Church Street to Evelyn Street, in particular large lorries.

In a bid to make heading northbound as a cut-though less desirable, work being carried out will reduce the width of the junction at Giffin Street so drivers have to give way to traffic.

The council will also ban any left turn out of Frankham Street parking boulevard and will enforce this with a camera.

During the closure starting on August 28, the second of three phases of work that will be complete by mid-October, entry to Giffin Street from Deptford Church Street will be access-only for residents and deliveries to Tidemill School, Deptford Lounge and Wavelengths Leisure Centre.

You can still park in Frankham Street boulevard and exit via Giffin Street as before.

Works will generally take place Monday to Friday between the hours of 8am–6pm and on Saturdays between 8am–1pm.
