An independent hospital in Abbey Wood for men with learning disabilities and complex needs has been praised by healthcare watchdog CQC.

Danshell’s Bostall House was rated ‘good’ across all the areas inspected by the Care Quality Commission including safety, effectiveness, care, responsiveness and leadership.

Inspectors said: “Patients and families were involved in their care and gave positive feedback about the service. Patients could give feedback to staff about their care in regular meetings and via their patient representative.

“Staff morale was high and staff said that they felt supported.

“There were effective governance structures in place for senior staff to monitor the running of the service and patients gave positive feedback about the caring and supportive nature of staff. We observed very positive interactions between staff and patients.”

The hospital received an improved rating in the area of safety following recommendations made by inspectors at a previous visit.

Elizabeth Ughu, Manager of Bostall House, said: “I am delighted with the CQC outcome. It has been a real team effort and everyone has pulled together to make Bostall House the fantastic place it is today.

“We have taken on board all the feedback from the CQC and endeavour to further improve our service and build on our strengths of integrating the people we support into the local community in diverse and meaningful ways.”
