Another 250 new homes and a new village centre have been approved for the garden city in Ebbsfleet.

Ebbsfleet Development Corporation’s planning committee approved plans submitted by Newcrest for a neighbourhood centre in Castle Hill, providing retail space and 56 homes.

Plans approved included a new supermarket, a café and a takeaway and a village centre.

The green light was given to schemes across the city including plans for more shared ownership properties.

Social housing provider Clarion was given permission for a further 37 houses and 31 apartments in Castle Hill, all of which will be shared ownership.

Paul Spooner, Interim Chief Executive of Ebbsfleet Development Corporation, said: “It’s good to see another 250 homes being approved after a phenomenal 12 months for Ebbsfleet Garden City which saw more than 600 homes under construction.

“Ebbsfleet Garden City provides a wide range of housing, from affordable with shared ownership, helping to give people a good start on the property ladder, to quality family homes, all on London’s doorstep but at a fraction of its price.”

The developer Countryside will continue to develop at Springhead Park with a further 126 homes including apartments and two, three and four bedroom homes.

Springhead Park will have 800 homes in total, 300 of which have already been built.

Plans are also progressing for a new primary school on the site.

The first primary school in the garden city, Cherry Orchard, will open next month and there will be 6,250 homes across three villages in Eastern Quarry.
