A police chase from the Isle of Sheppey into Abbey Wood resulted in one man being arrested.

Kent Police received information on a potentially stolen vehicle in Leysdown Road on the island at 10.30pm yesterday, August 13.

Police found the vehicle driving just past the Sheppey Crossing on the mainland on Raspberry Hill at 11.20pm and tried to get the driver to stop.

When he didn’t, officers began the hour-long chase across Kent and into London, pursued by police cars and helicopters.

The driver arrived into Bexleyheath around 11.25pm as Met Police joined in the chase with helicopters continuing to chase overhead.

The chase ended in Eynsham Drive in Abbey Wood where the driver got out and tried to escape on foot.

A 24-year-old man was arrested by officers from Met Police in nearby Godstow Road on suspicion of taking and driving away, dangerous driving, driving with no licence and driving with no insurance.

He was further arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm for an incident June 20 in the Woolwich and Plumstead area.

He was taken to a south London police station where he remains in custody.
