A man has been arrested after armed police swooped in Bexleyheath .
Police conducted an armed stop in May Place Road as part of an ongoing operation by the Met's Trident gang crime unit.
A spokesman for the Met Police said: "One man was arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm and he has been taken to a south London police station where he remains in custody."
A suspected firearm was recovered at the scene.
Witnesses reported the incident was near Barnehurst Golf Club and that a large police presence had closed the road.
Another said they could see "plain police cars" and that they had to turn around.
