A Lamborghini supercar that went missing in London after being rented out in Switzerland was found just before it was about to be shipped off to Africa.

The black Lamborghini Huracán Spyder was rented out from a Swiss rental company Scheiwiller Automotive Luxury Car Rental by a woman with an Irish ID.

The woman said she only planned to drive the £200,000 car to Strasburg but instead the in-built GPS tracker followed it from Zurich to London as it crossed the M25 at Swanley through Sidcup and Lee, crossed the river by Battersea and reached the Kensington and Knightbridge areas.

At that point the car disappeared and it was left to company owner Adriano Scheiwiller to put out the word to Londoners that a potentially stolen supercar was in the UK capital.

A reward of 5,000 francs (a little over £4,000) was offered to anyone who could find it, and a car-spotter located the valuable missing vehicle.

Speaking to the Swiss newspaper Blick, Mr Scheiwiller said on August 1 the car-spotter found it while searching for another stolen car, this time an Audi.

He told the Swiss newspaper that the spotter recognised the Lamborghini from news reports and said that it was in a container about to be sent off to “west Africa”.

Mr Scheiwiller has since flown out to London to pick the car back up and take it back to Zurich.
