THREE Charlton fans have been jailed for their part in an organised fight between rival football gangs.

The group of supporters took part in a violent confrontation with Northampton Town fans in Caledonian Road in central London.

Both teams had been playing away matches and their fans were travelling home through London.

Three Charlton and four Northampton supporters were identified from CCTV footage by the Football Intelligence Unit.

Stephen Lyons, aged 50, of Bayliss Avenue, Thamesmead, Daniel Boylett, 26, of Rochester Way, Eltham, and Joe Goedhart, 21, of Rembrant Road, Lewisham, were each sentenced to a year in jail at the Inner London Crown Court, on July 5.

Lyons, Boylett and Goedhart pleaded guilty at Wood Green Crown Court last year to violent disorder.

In addition to the jail sentence, Lyons and Goedhart were given a six-year football banning order, forbidding them to go within two miles of any Charlton match at the Valley or any Charlton away match for four hours either side of the kick-off.

Boylett was also given the same order, but with a one-mile restriction of the matches.

Recorder Peter Herbert described the fight, on January 7 last year, as "disorder fuelled by drink, football-related and pre-planned."
