A Gravesend fraudster who scammed a bed-bound 92-year-old Bromley woman with dementia out of more than £300,000 has been jailed.

Graham Clark, 59, of Cross Lane West was jailed for five years and 10 months at Kingston Crown Court on July 19 after pleading guilty to fraud.

Over a period of three years between 2011 and 2014, while acting as the victim’s financial carer, Clark transferred £301,737.39 from the victim’s bank accounts into his accounts.

Clark was charged with fraud on 11 November last year and denied the offence throughout the investigation, before pleading guilty when he appeared at Crown Court.

He was immediately jailed and the victim, who was his distant relative, in the case has since passed away.

Following the successful criminal prosecution Clark, who also has another property in Henley-Upon-Thames, is subject to an ongoing financial investigation under the Proceeds Crime Act 2006.

Detective Constable James Coldham from Bromley Police’s CID said: “Clark, a distant relative of the victim, abused his position of trust after gaining access to her bank accounts and savings bonds, on the pretext that he would be arranging payment of her carer fees.

"In fact he was callously syphoning off thousands of pounds a week for his own personal use”.
