A spate of bogus callers in Penge has led to police issuing a warning to residents.
The advice comes after reports of 'smartly dressed' men pretending to be from the water board approaching homes in the area.
Police said there have also been reports of men claiming to need to check gas and electric meters in order to gain access to the house.
Police said residents should use a door chain and ask for identification and call 101 if they are suspicious.
