A man has been jailed for seven years for drunkenly stabbing a man he had fallen out with.

Luke Sutherland, of Bramble Avenue in Bean, was jailed after he pleaded guilty to wounding with intent.

A court heard how Sutherland had gone into a back garden and drunkenly shouted a man’s name.

The victim, who is a man aged in his 20s, was in his back garden and knew Sutherland was trying to find this man.

Investigating officer, Detective Constable Phil Pead, said: "This was a particularly nasty attack against the victim who sustained serious injuries.

"Sutherland had gone out that night intending on causing harm and when he did not find the person he was looking for, the victim became his target."

Knowing that there was animosity between Sutherland and the man he was shouting for, the victim went to another house in Bean to warn him.

When the victim got there he saw Sutherland hiding behind a wall. He then tried to scare him off and got into an argument with him before seeing that Sutherland was carrying a knife.

The victim returned home and then at around 1am Sutherland again attended the rear of the victim’s property and began shouting out for the same man as earlier.

At this point the victim picked up a pick axe handle and swung it down onto his fence in an attempt to scare off Sutherland.

The victim then exited his rear garden into an adjoining alleyway with the intention of chasing Sutherland away.

Sutherland approached the victim and stabbed him in the stomach with a knife before running away from the scene.

Kent Police was called at 1.04am and the victim was taken to a London hospital where he was treated for serious injuries to his stomach.

Sutherland, 30, was arrested at 1.35am following the incident and later charged.

He was sentenced at Woolwich Crown Court on Thursday, July 13 having been charged with one count of wounding with intent.
