An historic 18th century building in Sidcup is set to be refurbished into a pub and restaurant.

The leasehold interest of Sidcup Place has been brought by Marston’s, the world’s largest brewer of cask ales.

The company is proposing to refurbish the building and operate it as a Rotisserie pub and restaurant.

Sidcup Place was used as a family home and a school before being bought by Chislehurst and Sidcup District Council in 1934.

Councillor Linda Bailey, cabinet member for regeneration and growth, said: “We are delighted that Marston’s have acquired Sidcup Place and that they have made a long-term commitment to the town.

“Recent years have seen significant investment in the town centre and a much wider choice of places to eat out. I am sure the arrival of Marston’s will attract even more trade to the area and we look forward to working with them.”

Marston’s acquired the lease to Sidcup Place from Whitbread, who traded for nearly 20 years under their Brewers Fayre brand.

The refurbishment is likely to happen in the autumn or early next year. Planning permission and listed building consent may be required.

The building is owned by the London Borough of Bexley.
