An amateur golfer from Bexleyheath will be taking on the pros at the British Open thanks to a win in a European tournament.
Alfie Plant earned a spot at the Open for his performance at the European Amateur tournament at Walton Heath on July 1.
Alfie, who lives near Pickford Lane in Bexleyheath, said it was a great feeling to take home the win on his second time at the competition.
He said: “It is a great feeling, I am still on a high now, it is going to take a while to come down.
“I’m just really excited, it will be an amazing feeling to play with the professionals who I have watched on the telly and who I look up to.
“I’m going to go and just enjoy it.”
Alfie, who plays his golf at Sundridge Park in Bromley, won a three way play-off with a birdie on the fifth extra hole to win the tournament last weekend.
He said: “I doubt I will get placed with any of the big names but you never know!”
The Open will be played at Royal Birkdale from July 20 to 23.
Alfie’s brother Albert and dad Darren support his golf and even step in to caddy for him.
Alfie said: “It is an amazing feeling to have your friends and family following you around the course and watching, the support is great.”
Before playing in the Open Alfie will be flying to Austria to take part in the European Amateur Team Championship at the Diamond Country club.
