A kebab shop in Sidcup has been told it needs major improvements after food hygiene inspectors found raw meat stored with cake.

Kebab Ye in Maidstone Road was inspected by food safety officers from Bexley Council in March this year.

The inspectors look at how hygienically food is handled, the condition and cleanliness of the building and how they management ensures food is safe and standards are maintained. Each area is given a rating between zero - meaning urgent improvement necessary - and five - meaning very good.

The establishment is then given an overall rating.

Kebab Ye was given a rating of just one, meaning 'major improvement necessary'.

Documents released to News Shopper show a number of areas for improvements.

In the report, the following poor practices were witnessed at the time of the inspection or were described by staff when questioned.

The inspector wrote: “Raw meat was being stored with or above ready to eat food.

“Anti-bacterial cleaners were not being used appropriately or effectively.

“Food handlers were contaminating their hands by handling raw burgers using the paper divider and then not washing their hands with soap.

“Raw meat was stored with cakes and drinks in the front display chiller, raw meat should be displayed in a separate chiller”

The inspector recommended that a lobby be installed between the toilet compartment.

News Shopper approached Kebab Ye but a spokesman declined to comment.
