Plumstead’s former gangster resident Dave Courtney is “showing his softer side” by opening up his home to support the survivors of the tragic Grenfell Tower fire and their families.

Mr Courtney, infamous for being an associate of the Kray Twins and using a knuckle duster when debt-collecting, will be hosting a family fun day at his home dubbed “Camelot Castle”.

Organised with help from Cockney Pride who will be setting up a mini market selling exclusively designed shirts, it is hoped the day will raise money for the victims of the tragic fire which has killed 79 people.

Mr Courtney said: "I was recently approached by Joe Leslie, founder of website Cockney Pride, to help host a fund-raising family funday BBQ at my home, I had no hesitation in saying yes.

“I really think not only will we have fabulous day we will also raise a few bob”.

All profits from sales on the day will be donated to the victims.

Joe Leslie said: “I was at Dave’s house a little while ago and we thought this would be a great opportunity to raise as much money as we can.

“I reckon we will have 100 people plus, and we just want to raise money.

“We have spoken to some of the victims and invited them to come, it will be a good chance for them to get away from that area and that view and meet some new people.”

As well as the mini market there will be a true crime memorabilia auction and a Only Fools and Horses “What Happens Next” video competition.

The family funday BBQ will be held on Sunday, July 9 from 1pm until 10.30pm at Camelot Castle, Chestnut Rise, London.
