London Resort officials have promised there will now be a “number of recognisable brands” at the promised North Kent theme park following the surprise departure of Paramount from the project.

Andy Martin, a spokesman for London Resort, said the break up with Paramount was an exciting opportunity for the park.

Earlier in the week, it was announced that Paramount would no longer be involved in the project that would have a park bigger than Disneyland built on the Swanscombe Peninsula.

Mr Martin said: “We are now called London Resort and we will be a multi intellectual property resort.

“We are hoping there will be a number of recognisable brands present at the park. Nothing has changed, we are still hoping to open in 2022 and to submit planning in November.

“The only thing that has changed is the name above the door.”

There are already agreements in place with the BBC and with the creators of Wallace and Gromit, Aardman Animations, but details regarding what themes and brands are being lined up for the park are being kept a secret.

Jeremy Kite, the leader of Dartford Council, said the decision allowed the resort to work more freely with other studios.

Cllr Kite said: “I don’t think it will make a huge amount of difference. They want to work with a series of brands.

“I think as they are developing all the time and there will be some different deals. It is exciting.”

The businesses and landowners based on the Northfleet Industrial Estates, known as Peninsula Management Group, have welcomed the progress of the resort project but are concerned about the progress of negotiations.

London Resort are still aiming to submit a planning application later this year following a number of public consultations.

Dan Bramwell, spokesman for PMG, said: “Whereas it is good to see progress being made as this helps to eliminate uncertainty, it is very frustrating that serious negotiations over relocation and compensation for the businesses and landowners has yet to start in earnest.”

Mr Martin said there is an open relationship between PMG and the London Resort.
