South-east London could be one of the best places for a pint after three pubs were awarded by the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA).

They picked the best pubs across the country as part of Community Pubs month and three boozers in the News Shopper area were on the capital's shortlist.

The Penny Farthing micro-pub in Waterside, Crayford was named one of the top 12 pubs in London by CAMRA judges. The micro-pub which is in an old shop sells real ale from the cask but does not offer lager, spirits or food.

They say they provide "just good company and good conversation" as well as ale, cider, wine and soft drinks.

Husband and wife team Bob and Beverly Baldwin celebrated selling their 1,000 cask of ale made by Bexley Brewery earlier this month.

Another micro-pub One Inn the Wood in Petts Wood Road also featured on the list. They describe a micropub as an establishment that "listens to its customers, mainly serves cask ales, promotes conversation, shuns all forms of electronic entertainment and dabbles in traditional pub snacks.”

News Shopper:

Pelton Arms in Greenwich made the top 12. The News Shopper Pub Spy agreed with CAMRA's recommendation back in 2011 when he said "just 10 minutes walk from Cutty Sark DLR station is a pub which has so much going on, I’m packing my bags and moving in."

CAMRA was established in 1971 and has more than 187,000 real-ale enthusiast members across the world. They believe that well-run pubs "play a critical social role in UK culture as the centres of community life."
