A mother of two from Croydon has won an award for bringing a slice of Hollywood to communities across London thanks to her mum, an old bus and A2Dominion.

A2Dominion, one of the leading residential property groups in London and the South East, has honoured Kerry Hector, 34, from Croydon, as Entrepreneur of the Year for making a positive contribution to local neighbourhoods at its annual Residents Awards.

In response to spiralling cinema costs, Kerry converted an old bus into a unique cinema experience with funds she secured from A2Dominion’s enterprise programme which provides financial investment and mentoring to its residents.

Inspired by her mum, a TFL bus driver, Kerry now plans to bring the enjoyment of the ‘MovieMobil’ cinema bus to other areas across the capital.

Now in its fifth year, the A2Dominion Resident Awards recognises the commitment and achievements of residents, local community groups and partners. Through their tireless work and determination, they are instrumental in creating thriving communities. This year’s ceremony was held at a special awards gala dinner on Friday 2 June at the Renaissance Hotel, Hounslow.

Dawn Wightman, A2Dominion Group Housing Director said: “Since 2012 we have awarded over £75,000 to 39 residents with the aim of making them budding entrepreneurs. Kerry has gone the extra mile bringing some escapism to families in disadvantaged areas and now plans to get the bus travelling to more locations across London. Her idea has been so successful that she’s since given up her job in communications to work full time on the business and hopes to create a fleet of similar buses.”

“These awards showcase the inspiring individuals and groups making a difference in their communities. This year’s finalists have all gone the extra mile with their volunteering and impressed the judges with their flair, tenacity and commitment. They have invested hundreds of hours of their own time in working with us to improve services, creating meaningful and innovative projects and opportunities that improve people’s lives.”

Kerry Hector, picking up the award, said: “It means everything to me because this is where everything began, here with A2Dominion. Being recognised by a housing association for something so major is just incredible. It means everything to me.”
