A state-of-the-art engineering hub was opened by a member of the Royal family in Biggin Hill.

Prince Michael of Kent opened the Bombardier aviation centre at Biggin Hill Airport on Thursday last week.

The 52,000 sq. ft. hangar at Biggin Hill Airport is equipped to perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance and modifications 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Jean-Christophe Gallagher, Bombardier’s vice-president and general manager, said: “We are committed to a long-term relationship with Biggin Hill Airport to develop a world-class aviation hub serving as a catalyst for business aviation growth in the region.

“We are extremely proud to inaugurate our new facility during the airport’s 100-year anniversary celebration, making this an even more memorable milestone for Bombardier.”

Airport chairman Andrew Walters said: ”Local people said that they wanted the good high-tech modern jobs for their sons and daughters near to where they are growing up.

“So, a huge thanks to all in the local community who supported our plans and we are certain that we and Bombardier will repay that faith and deliver those jobs.”

Prince Michael performed the official opening and unveiled a brass plaque in the hangar.

He said: “Bombardier is active in 40 countries across the world, including Great Britain.

“As the leading manufacturer of trains and planes, their presence at Biggin Hill is hugely welcome and will contribute significantly to the advancement of the planned Strategic Outer London Development Centre.”
