A double-decker bus had its roof ripped off as the driver tried to go under a railway bridge.

Photos posted on social media show the rail replacement bus without its roof after it hit a bridge outside Shortlands station.

Bromley Road was closed for more than two hours following the incident.

A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police said: "Police were called on Sunday, May 14 shortly after 10.50pm to a bus in collision with a bridge outside Shortlands train station.

"Officers attended and no one was found to be injured.

"Road closures were put in place whilst the incident was being dealt with. The roads were re-opened shortly after 1.30am."
