Thamesmead’s cannibalistic heron, nicknamed Hannibal, has been spotted loitering around the KFC “fly-thru”.

Hannibal, who has previously been spotted snacking on chicken, is a regular at the drive-thru store in Cannon Retail Park.

Debbie Beeston Cross posted her photos of the heron in the Thamesmead All Stages SE28 Facebook group and said “Mr Heron waiting for KFC to open.”

One Facebook user added: “A few days ago it was eating chicken in the road it wouldn’t move I had to drive around it. It would rather be run over then lose its food.

Another joked: “Silly heron should use the just eat app and wait for home delivery.”

The large grey bird has been snapped outside his favourite fast food restaurant several times over the last few years.

In May last year he was pictured staring longingly through the window at diners.

One month before that, in April, he was filmed pecking at his chicken meal in the car park.

Safety-conscious Hannibal was spotted strutting across a zebra crossing in 2014 – presumably on his way to get a bargain bucket.
