There was a different kind of arrival at London Bridge station yesterday evening when a woman gave birth to a baby boy on the platform.
Stunned passengers witnessed an off-duty doctor help deliver the baby at the station after an announcement was made calling for medical help.
A tweet posted on the London Bridge twitter account said the mother, who gave birth just after 4.30pm, and baby were “doing great”.
The tweet said: “At 16:36 today our team did a marvellous job helping to deliver a baby boy into the world. Mother and baby doing great.”
Staff and the medical professionals who assisted the woman as she went into labour on platform nine were praised on social media.
Kelly Preedy said on Twitter: “I was on the platform when you called for a doctor or nurse over the tannoy! Glad it was a happy event rather than a sad one for a change!”
Another Twitter user wrote: “Well done yesterday as someone who works at London Bridge I can’t help but be impressed how doctors or nurses are quick to respond to appeals.”
A blanket was taken from a nearby Oliver Bonas store to help make the woman comfortable.
Another tweet from the London Bridge account added: “And thank you to Oliver Bonas who supplied the much needed blanket.”
