A nursery in Dartford has been inundated with donations from strangers after their toy shed was broken into last week.

Toys and crafts were stolen from Broom Hill Pre School in Broom Hill Road, Dartford.

After speaking to News Shopper, Caroline Rees and her staff found strangers turning up to the nursery to donate bags and bags of new toys.

A crowdfunding page was set up by a Good Samaritan as well which has raised over £550 to go towards a new shed.

Justin Scrutton, who set up the Crowdfunder, said: “I did it straight away after I read about it.

“I decided to set up a Just Giving page to try and replace some of the things stolen by these mindless idiots.

News Shopper:

“I can’t believe it has raised hundreds. I set a target of £800 to be realistic but it’s going to beat that hopefully! Some people have been so nice, it goes to show the overwhelming support of the local community – and the power of Facebook!”

Justin did pop in to introduce himself, and he wasn’t the only good nature visitor.

Caroline Rees, supervisor of the nursery, said: “We are so thankful to the people of Dartford. It has been so overwhelming, I could cry.

“We had 5 wishes turn up with a car load of toys, and a couple Kerry and Billy Tanner spent £40 on stationary so the kids can do crafts

“Justin’s fundraiser for the shed shows how nice people can be. It is simply unbelievable.”

Broom hill has been open as a non-profit organisation for over 50 years.

The toy shed was burgled on Easter Sunday meaning the school had to shut early, and the kids could not do crafts.

Donations have included new toys and unopened pens and pencils and a community support group, 5 Wishes, live streamed their arrival at the playschool to donate toys.

Michelle Forde, a mum with twins at the play school, said the kindness of strangers had been overwhelming.

She said: “This has meant so much to the school, they run only on donations.

“It is amazing how much community spirit there is in Dartford. This will keep the playschool going. It really has been touching for everyone there.”
