“Precious” items stolen from bereaved parents from Dartford have been returned – but the car they were stolen from remains missing.

On April 17 a black Ford Fiesta was stolen from Mead Road, and inside there was a number of sentimental items that belonged to a baby that had recently died.

Yesterday, April 23, a red dinosaur, two car seats and a buggy were left at North Kent Police Station, Northfleet, however the car remains stolen.

Other items that were in the stolen car include a blue and grey blanket the baby was wrapped in at birth.

Sergeant Becky Jones said: “When this car was stolen it contained several items which belonged to the victim’s deceased child and this has caused a great deal of upset and distress for the whole family."

Sergeant Jones added that the items are of "huge sentimental value" to the victim and the family and that they desperately wanted them back.

Police are continuing to investigate the theft and are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

The vehicle's bonnet does not close properly and its licence plate begins X389 but police say this may have been removed.
