Planned industrial action that would have hit the Woolwich Ferry has been suspended, the Unite union said.
A strike had been planned for Friday April 21 but, following "positive progess" today, union members will work as normal.
Unite regional officer Onay Kasab said: "Tomorrow’s strike on the Woolwich Ferry has been suspended as we have made very positive progress this morning in talks with the management.
"Our members will be working normally."
Further talks between Unite and Briggs Marine Contractors Ltd, which runs the service on behalf Transport for London, are scheduled for Tuesday April 25.
Mr Kasab said: "We hope to resolve the outstanding issues.
"Unite won’t be commenting further until those talks have concluded.”
According to the union about 3,500 vehicles use the free service across the Thames each day and an estimated two million passengers use the ferry annually.
