A murder victim who was stabbed to death in Blackheath has been named.

Jordan Wright, 19, from Catford was found with stab injuries in Hervey Road last night.

Police were called to the scene at 8.10pm and the London Ambulance Service took Jordan to a south London hospital, where he later died.

Friends took to social media to pay tribute to the teenager.

Riyanna Hewitt tweeted: "'I'm asking all of Jordan's Wright friends there with him that night to come forward. If you don't, then was you really his friend?"

She added: "Jordan I love you so much and I know you're in a better place now but it hurts knowing you're gone."

Twitter user @EDasho974 wrote: "R.I.P Jordan Wright, Clean hearted, humble young boy man."

The entrance to the Hervey Road sports field was cordoned off as forensic experts trawled the area for evidence.

Investigators were at the scene digging through the overgrown tennis courts and shrubbery by the entrance.

The sports fields are primarily used by dog walkers but last night was the scene of a tragic attack.

A post-mortem examination will take place later today.

Mary Elphick, 79, has lived on the estate for 45 years and said it's primarily elderly people who live there.

She said: "The police came to my house last night and said it was really bad but I didn't realise it was that bad.

"It's a quiet, respectable estate. We have had stuff happen in the past but nothing as serious as this."

Police are appealing for a group of males thought to have been with Jordan before the attack to come forward.

The officer leading the investigation, Detective Chief Inspector Diane Tudway, said:"I believe Jordan was part of a group of young men who had entered the park together before he was stabbed.

"Those other young men will know who they are, and I urge each of them to call police or Crimestoppers and simply describe what they saw."

No arrests have been made and detectives from the homicide and major crime command are investigating.

The attack comes in the same week the new Metropolitan Police commissioner Cressida Dick said she plans to make tackling knife crime a top priority.

Her comments came after the Met released figures last week showing a 24 per cent rise in knife crime last year.
