Glenn Tillbrook from Squeeze entertained crowds before a spectacular performance of light, sound and water at the Fentimans Festival Stage in Artillery Square.
Music and street performances as well as children’s activities will take place each day of the festival in Woolwich and Greenwich, before the regatta spreads to Eltham on Saturday.
More than one million attended the four-day festival last year, enjoying the parade of ships, historic re-enactments, and performances.
