A police constable who stopped to get a kebab has been sacked for trying to get out of a parking fine by lying about being on police business at the time.

PC Lee Wilson, attached to Greenwich, was found guilty of gross misconduct following a two-day misconduct hearing on Friday, March 10.

While he was on duty on May 24, 2015, Mr Wilson parked an unmarked police car on a red route in Blackheath Hill "without a policing reason".

PC Wilson had stopped to get a kebab and when he received a parking ticket lied that he was "engaged in official police duties".

He lied to his line managers and in an interview.

Detective Chief Superintendent Matt Gardner Directorate of Professional Standards said: "The actions of this officer undermines public confidence in that the officer did not follow parking regulations and had no policing purpose to be where he was and then decided to be deceitful about the matter.

"His conduct has fallen below the standards of what we expect and the public deserve of their police officers. The panel were rightly justified in their decision of dismissal."
