A 14,000 square foot disused warehouse in St Mary Cray has been reinvented as a trampoline park by a father and son from Bromley despite stumbling blocks posed by the council.

Daniel Locke and his father Tony are preparing to open the first branch of their trampoline business AirJump in a unit near Nugent Shopping Centre.

Daniel, the operations director of AirJump, said: “This is a family run business and it is important to us to keep everything local. I grew up in Bromley, I know there is nothing to do here that is different.

“We wanted to give something for everyone, from little ones to those a bit older. We want to give people an option.

“It will be nice to have something more local for everyone.”

Daniel said AirJump will look to employ around 30 people and will be open to collaborating with local schools.

“There will be fitness classes, toddler and parent sessions and hopefully something for everyone. We will be more than just trampolining.

“Once this one is settled, we will look to expand. We do want to keep everything within our reach.

We want to be something to bring to families in the area as it is nice to do something with the family and not everyone has the time.”

Bromley council planning officers originally recommended the application be refused at sub-committee meeting because of concerns over depriving a business area a unit.

The warehouse had been empty since 2013 and after a second attempt the father and son team were granted permission to change the unit use.

Daniel said discussions have taken place with neighbouring units and that parking shouldn’t be an issue.

The director said: “The council wanted to keep the area industrial but our application was taken into a committee meeting and it was ruled in our favour. We will be bringing opportunity to the borough.”

AirJump will open in March with a show involving special guests and performers.

Bromley council have been contacted for a comment.
