Disgraced Sydenham children’s entertainer Rolf Harris will be retried on three sex offence charges and faces one new count.

A jury found the 86-year-old not guilty of three assaults, following a trial at Southwark Crown Court, on Wednesday February 8.

He appeared via video-link for the hearing on Wednesday, February 15.

The former TV star is accused of four indecent assaults against three teenage girls, spanning two decades.

Harris will be retried for the alleged assault of a 14-year-old girl in 1971, a 13-year-old girl in 1983 and another teenage girl in 1978.

He faces a new count of assault against the same teenager in relation to the 1978 allegation.

The retrial is set for Monday, May 15.

His Honour Judge Alistair McCreath remanded the Australian in custody.

“Thank you,” Harris said following the decision.

A spokesman for the Crown Prosecution Service said they had decided to seek a retrial “after careful consideration” following the jury being discharged last week.

He added: "This decision was taken after consideration of all the matters set out in our legal guidance on seeking re-trials when a jury has failed to agree on a verdict.

"The Crown Prosecution Service reminds all concerned that criminal proceedings against Rolf Harris remain active and that he has a right to a fair trial.

“It is extremely important that there should be no reporting, commentary or sharing of information online which could in any way prejudice these proceedings.”
