Politicians are the least trusted professionals in the UK, according to a report by Mumsmet and Ipsos MORI. 

The 2016 Ipsos MORI Veracity Index poll shows that the three least trusted professionals are journalists, trusted by 24 per cent of respondents, Government ministers (20 per cent) and politicians generally (15 per cent). 

Nurses are at the top, trusted to tell the truth by 93 per cent of people followed closely by doctors at 91 per cent.

While politicians are usually at the bottom, public trust in them has dropped by 6 per cent in the last year. 

At the end of a year during which we were told that the public had had enough of experts, 80 per cent say they trust scientists.

Economists come in the middle of the table, trusted by 48 per cent - coincidentally exactly the proportion of the electorate that voted ‘Remain’.

Bankers are trusted by 37 per cent while hairdressers have a vote of confidence of 68 per cent.
