Eight fire engines and fifty eight firefighters and officers were called to a house fire in Shooters Hill Road in Blackheath.

Part of the first floor and second floor was alight and half of the roof caught fire in the three-storey detached house.

One person and a dog left the property before the Brigade arrived.

Motorists were advised to avoid the area as the road was closed London-bound between the Sun in the Sands roundabout and Stratheden Road on the A2.

Station Manager, Lee Sparks is at the scene and said: "The first crews to arrive at the scene saw smoke coming from the roof of the property.

"Firefighters entered the house with breathing apparatus and encountered fire and heavy smoke."

Fire crews from East Greenwich, Plumstead, Lewisham, Eltham, New Cross, Greenwich and Old Kent Road fire stations attended the blaze.

The Brigade was called at 12.44pm and the fire was under control by 3.33pm.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
