A competitive eating champion won’t be feeling peckish for a while after he put away 45 chicken wings during the challenge.

Cocky Darran Goulder, of Chesterton Road, Bromley, beat the previous record of 43 chicken wings when he took on the challenge at Kelsey’s House Kitchen on Monday, November 28.

After being assured by the News Shopper that the call wasn’t a wind up Mr Goulder said it was peer pressure that made him wing it and go the distance. The 32-year-old said: “I smashed the record yeah, but I’m not proud of it and there was a deep feeling of regret the next day.

“I’m not sure I can repeat what Laura, my missus, said to me, but ‘fat’ and ‘pig’ were definitely mentioned. I don’t think she minded too much because she told her mates at work the next day.

“It was all peer pressure though. I wanted to stop, but my mate Steve ‘the bear’ ordered more and they egged me on until I hit 45.”

Kelsey's House Kitchen, Beckenham, confirmed there had been no fowl play when the record was smashed.

Mr Goulder’s friends also took part in the challenge, but were defeated at the 20 and 30 wing mark.

But the champion admitted it would probably be a one-hit wonder and announced he would be retiring from competitive eating.

“It was a solid effort, but I won’t be going back there anytime soon. They were really tasty, they have to be to eat so many, although I won’t be eating very much for a while.

“I’ll be on a diet until Christmas Day for sure.”

The 32-year-old added that he was hatching a plan to get one back on his pal Steve, who supplied Mr Goulder’s number to the News Shopper.

He said: “I’m not quite sure what I’m going to do. I might bide my time and see what I plan to do to him.”

We’d watch out if we were you Steve…
