All wards at the Princess Royal University Hospital (PRUH) have been closed to visitors following an outbreak of norovirus.

The hospital’s adult wards have been shut down and limited access granted to the children’s ward in an attempt to control the winter vomiting bug.

A spokeswoman for the hospital confirmed that none of its children had the virus in what is the third outbreak of the bug this year.

Visiting on the children’s ward will be restricted to parents, guardians and grandparents while visiting in the maternity section is restricted to birth partners only.

The Labour Ward and Oasis Birth Centre are unaffected by norovirus and remain open.

Women due to give birth at the hospital can attend as normal.

The hospital’s A&E will remain open.

“Our top priority is the safety and well-being of all patients, and we are taking this precaution to prevent the virus from spreading in the hospital and the local community,” the spokeswoman said, “In exceptional circumstances, such as if your relative is extremely unwell, we will allow visiting, but only with the express permission of senior clinicians.”
