Watford boss Walter Mazzarri confirmed he has held no conversation with his players about what has been mooted as a possible, if unlikely, points deduction against the club.

An allegedly forged letter from HSBC which was apparently submitted to the Football League by the club emerged this week and while the footballing authorities are unlikely to issue a deduction to the Hornets, it is not an impossibility.

The situation is a familiar one for the Italian – in 2006, his Reggina side were deducted 15 points for the club’s part in match fixing in Serie A, although it was later reduced to 11 on appeal.

On that occasion, his side defeated Milan on the final day of the season to keep their place in the top flight, although the Italian said he had no worries of having to perform similar miracles in Hertfordshire this season.

“The club has already made a statement on the situation,” he said. “I’m in line with what they said. I am not worried at all about the issue.

“It’s something I am not really interested in. The president has always done things in the right way, and this is more than enough for me.

“None of the players have asked anything to me or the club about the situation, so I think there is nothing to worry about.

“I don’t like to go too much into it, because we’re talking about something in the past.

"[If it happened again] like it did that year, I’d just tell my players not to look at the table and play every game concentrating on getting maximum points, which is what I do now anyway.”
