Counter terrorism officers are investigating a suspicious item found on the tube at North Greenwich.
The station was closed for around seven hours after train staff alerted police to the item on an eastbound Jubilee line train just after 11am yesterday morning (October 20).
The station was evacuated and a controlled detonation of the item took place.
In a statement the British Transport Police (BTP) wrote: "Just after 11.00am today we were called to North Greenwich station after train staff reported finding a suspicious item on board a eastbound Jubilee Line train.
"Specialist officers from BTP and Metropolitan Police attended the scene. As a precaution a controlled detonation has since taken place in order to ensure the item was safe.
"An investigation is now underway led by the Metropolitan Police supported by BTP.
"The station remains closed as enquiries continue and we encourage people to check with Transport for London before travelling."
Photos and videos from the scene showed that the station and the O2 arena were taped off.
We are currently at North Greenwich station following a security alert. The station is currently closed. Updates to follow.

The Nickelback concert at The O2 went ahead as planned despite fans fears that the scare would have repercussions for the venue.
The Jubilee line was suspended between Canary Wharf and Stratford and there were severe delays on the rest of the line, with buses also unable to serve the area.
The Met's Counter Terrorism Command are investigating, but have said they are "keeping an open mind" and urge the public to "remain vigilant and alert" and report anything suspicious to the police.
The current threat level for international terrorism in the UK is severe - meaning an attack is "highly likely".
