A new 15,000 sq ft Asda store opened its doors in Lewisham on Monday.

The supermarket giant has created 80 jobs and made an £8.8 million investment into the area.

The Lewisham Wrestling Club were on hand to celebrate the opening by cutting the ribbon to the new Thurston Road store.

Hayley Young, the general store manager, and Mohamed Hamad, the owner and manager of bake&TAKE - also based on the store's site - were also at the opening with the new store team.

The Wrestling Club is a voluntary organisation aimed at promoting sport and fitness, as well as providing education to address issues facing young people.

The new store has easy access links and has 100 free customer car parking spaces.

Asda Lewisham will open from 6am-11pm Monday to Saturday and 11am-5pm on Sunday.
